Ghost World

Just saw this on dvd and really enjoyed it. It stars Thora Birch from American Beauty and, as in that movie, she plays a troubled teen who refuses to see the good in the world, preferring to retain her cool but cynical outlook on life. Her pal, Rebecca (Scarlet Johansson) shares her world view for a while, but after their high school graduation, their once close friendship begins to fall apart. These storylines have been dealt with before, but Ghost World breathes fresh air into the topic. And while Enid and Rebecca could probably fit comfortably into the Juno world, I found them to be a lot more realistic then the Juno character. Ghost World is an indie movie based on a comic book, but it's also a story about life, love, friendship and the perils of the real world. It's a plot that most people should be able to relate to and as it's played out well here, I imagine most people would enjoy this. Watch out too for another good turn from Steve Buscemi plus plenty of other familiar faces.
